Turkey: Arrest of Parents Leaves Quintuplets and Their Sibling in Limbo

Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, Yeşil Sol Party Member of Parliament for Kocaeli in Turkey, announced on his social media account that the couple, Abdülkadir and Nurcan Arslan, who were dismissed under state of emergency decrees (KHK), were arrested by the Peace Criminal Court in Edirne.

The quintuplets, who are 7 years old, and their 13-year-old child were left without their parents. After waiting for a while at the police station, the children were taken to Istanbul by their relatives.

It was stated that Abdülkadir Arslan had previously worked at an institution that was closed down with a state of emergency decree (KHK), and his wife was a housewife. Both of them were accused of being members of the Gülen movement and were tried on charges of being members of a terrorist organization. In the trials where they were accused of being members of a terrorist organization, Abdülkadir Arslan was sentenced to 9 years in prison, and his wife received a prison sentence of 6 years and 3 months. Their case is currently pending in the Court of Cassation.
